Mythbusters

Research studies and tests have proven, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that safety belts can reduce injuries and deaths. Despite all these findings, myths still persist about seat belts. Let us help you dispel some of the most popular myths.

“IF THERE’S A FIRE, OR I’M UNDERWATER, A SEATBELT WILL TRAP ME INSIDE THE CAR!”
Crashes involving fire or water only happen in a small number of all crashes. If they do occur, chances of survival increase immensely if you remain conscious, don’t sustain injuries, and can use all your faculties to escape. A seat belt greatly increases your chances of remaining

conscious during a crash, and takes only a second to remove.

“SEAT BELTS ARE GOOD ON LONG TRIPS, BUT WHO NEEDS THEM FOR DRIVING AROUND TOWN.”
One half of all crash deaths occur within 25 miles of home, at speeds of less than 40 mph. Don’t take chances with your life, or the lives of your passengers. Buckle up whenever and wherever you drive.

“IT’S TOO MUCH HASSLE TO PUT MY CHILD IN A CAR SEAT. THEY’RE TOO YOUNG FOR A SEATBELT.”
Motor vehicle crashes are the #1 killer of children from ages 1 to 14. About 50% of the deaths to children under 5 involved children that were unrestrained. So buckle them up in an approved safety seat no matter how near or far your drive. Not only are child restraints VERY effective for preventing deaths and injuries, they’re required by law.

“SOME PEOPLE ARE THROWN CLEAR IN A CRASH AND WALK AWAY WITH HARDLY A SCRATCH.”
You’re five times more likely to die if you’re thrown from a vehicle during a crash. Three quarters of people who are thrown from a car during a crash are killed. A seat belt will help drastically minimize the chances of being thrown from a car and sustaining major injuries during a traffic accident.
